Google to invest $10 billion over 5-7 years to Digitize India

Google’s Chief Executive Officer ‘Sundar Pichai’ mortgage to spend over $10 billion in India over the upcoming five to seven years to induce more businesses and people online, the internet giant’s biggest bet yet to tap one in every of the of the world’s fastest growing internet markets. ‘Sundar Pichai’ on Monday unveiled Google for India Digitization Fund through which the company will be making investments in the country.

This funds will be deployed to accelerate “Google’s efforts to spread connectivity and adopt Digitize Technologies through a mixture of equity investments, partnerships, operations, infrastructure and ecosystem investments. This is often a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy”,  said by ‘Sundar Pichai’, via video conference at the company’s annual event focused on India.

Investment’s will focus on Four Areas:

  • Enabling affordable access and information for each and every Indian in their own language, whether it’s Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi or any other.
  • Building new Products and Services that are deeply relevant to India’s unique needs.
    Empowering businesses as they still continue to embark on their Digital Transformation.
    Leveraging Technology and AI for social goods in leading sectors like Health, Education and Agriculture.
  • India is a key overseas marketplace for Google, where a range of it’s products and services is widespread including Search, YouTube and Android, they already have made in-roads with much of the entire online population.
  • The country of 1.33 Billion’s people has emerged as conceivably the last great untapped growth market for American and Chinese giants. Although, more than over 500 million of peoples in India are online today and over 450 million smartphones are daily active users in the country.

“There is still more work to do on this project in order to make the Internet affordable for billions of users in India from improving voice input command and computing for all of India’s languages to inspiring and supporting an entire new generation of entrepreneurs,” as said by Sundar Pichai.Morever, Google’s also plans to spend the funds to enable affordable Internet Access to all Indians in their own language and build new products and services that are relevant to India’s unique needs. Though, the company also aims to empower small and medium-sized businesses in their Digitalize transformation, leverage technology and Artificial Intelligence for social-good including Digital literacy and support for urban as well as rural economies.

‘The Digitalize revolution presents an opportunity to build the future of India’, said by Sanjay Gupta the country manager and vice-president of Google India. “ With 450 million daily active internet users in India.., Our aim is to get to the next 500 million users,” as per the Sanjay Gupta.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had an extremely fruitful interaction with Sundar Pichai.In response, Sundar Pichai said..“ We’re very optimistic about your vision for Digitize India and excited to continue our work towards it “.

Although, this investments will help Google to go deeper into India. It’ll also help them to obtrude upon cross-category businesses like E-commerce and Telecoms in which they do not have a presence yet. It’s likely that plenty of this can be employed in tapping the MSME sector especially the Retailer’s and Kirana maal stores in India, “ Google is not present in all of the six categories of Digital Platform Matrix which call as 6C’s of DPM — Connectivity, Community, Content, Commerce, Currency and Capital, this investment can also be a strategy to enter these businesses.”

Minister of Information Technology(IT),’Ravi Shankar Prasad’ said he sees an immense scope for Google through its application of Artificial Intelligence(AI) in Agriculture, Healthcare, Weather protection and Modern education. “ I’m very happy that Google is recognizing India Digital Innovation and they have to create further opportunities in India,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Separately, Google also announced to partnered with the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) to Digitize classrooms and will be working with CBSE Skill Education and Training by the end of 2020, it almost allow 1-million Teachers in 22,000 schools in India to deliver a blended learning that combines the classroom approach with online learning. Google, also to provide its software, including G-Suite for Education, Google Classroom and YouTube to allow such Digitization.  G-Suite for Education includes Google’s usual tools like Google Doc’s and Google Sheets.  It also includes many tools for teachers to give assignments to students and use Google Forms to submit them. Although, Google is also tying up with public broadcaster Prasar Bharati for an edutainment series for all small businesses.

Google which began operations in India in 2004, has extended its reach within the country through partnership’s with local Smartphone vendors to produce and sell low-cost handsets which will receive timely and more frequent software updates.
