Samsung’s Galaxy M series has added a lot of options for the Indian buyers in last one year. Continuing with the trend, the Online-focused Samsung Galaxy M-series now has one more refresh called the ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ which comes under 15000 segments smartphones. Although, Samsung has launched this device in March but unfortunately due-to lockdown there were no sales done at that time. It comes in two configuration models of 4GB RAM + 64GB Internal storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB of Internal storage.

Under the hood

The ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ packs it’s owned Octa-core Exynos 9611 SoC processor, which is little out-dated for the year 2020. However, it is still capable processor for daily users and specially for the PUBG Mobile lovers. You will not have any problems or any lag issue in the phone with the average multitasking but you might see some occasional hiccups during heavy usage. I would have personally liked the new generation chipset in it, but it seems like the company’s decision based on the price range. Since, they had to include a huge massive 6,000mAh battery with the device also you get an option of getting the same device with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of Internal storage.

However, the other variant of ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ offers 6GB RAM + 128GB of Internal storage option too. Users will also have the available option of microSD card with expansion of upto 512GB. The SIM-CARD tray located on the left side of the device carries the triple slot, where you can put in two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time.

Design, Display and Performance

The design of ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ is much more reminiscent as of the Galaxy M30s. The Blue color variant, which is boast’s of Glossy Polycarbonate Back. What really make it liked about the device is that it feels pretty lightweight despite carrying a huge 6,000mAh battery. Samsung has kept the weight all the way down to 188 grams and the thickness of 8.9mm. I didn’t feel the need to having a back case on this device neither Samsung is providing one in the box which means you will have to buy it separately. All you get in the box is a 15-W charger with USB Type-C cable and some quick guide documentation (which ofscourse nobody ready it) and with SIM ejector pin (see box contents below).

Now, coming to the front it comes with an ‘Infinity-U’ waterdrop-notch display. It is an AMOLED panel of 6.4-inch size and offers a full HD+ amoled display with 1080×2340 pixels of resolution. The quality of this panel is amazing and this thing to be most consistent in almost all the Samsung phones. The viewing angles on this 6.4-inch amoled display is preety much amazing, the contrast and brightness levels are at par with any of the present premium smartphones available in the market.

The only drawback in this phone, it has an old generation glass protection which is Corning Gorilla Glass-3 pretty much older in todays date. But, other than that everything else about the display is great.

Camera performance

The ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ features a set-up of Triple rear camera for capturing photos and recording videos. It includes the same set of sensors that we had seen on Samsung’s M30’s. It carries a primary camera of 48-megapixel lens with an 8-megapixel sensor carrying an 123-degree ultra-wide-angle lens and 5-megapixel depth sensor all at the back.

Here, there is a change in the front selfie camera, it’s been bumped to 20-megapixel instead of the 16-megapixel as earlier seen on M30’s. The camera performance on M30’s is found to be average for its price it comes and by seeing competition. Now, almost six months later the ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ also feels the same.

Indaylight the condition of this camera setup is excels with over-saturated colors, good sharpness and a great amount of detailing. The low-light and night photography is still a weak point on this device but overall the night mode has improved a bit as of from before M-series. Samsung claims, this camera setup is for the users who are not much into photography or videography. It is an average camera just because the competition today is so fierce in this price segment. There is no way that it get can compare it to the likes of Realme 6 Pro or Redmi Note 9 Pro smartphones.

Battery Life: Killer 6,000mAh battery

Just like the Samsung Galaxy M30s and Galaxy M31, this new ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ also comes up-with a huge 6,000mAh battery. It is the biggest and most highlighted part of this smartphone and probably the best thing as well, this should be a new standard for all the smartphone companies. The battery back-up on this phone is so amazing that it will make you forget your charger for almost two days.  As, we are not actively going out these days, so the battery output is comparatively better than our outing days. Otherwise, it would have lasted the battery for about 1.5 days.

Since, we are working from home just like everyone else but there is a lot of social media apps and video watching. Hence, considering the battery it is one of the best you can get at this price range.

Although, Samsung has slightly improved on the charging speed and ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ battery could now fully charge in about 2-hours 40-minutes. However, do not expect insane fast charging as this would probably go from 0 to 24% in about 15-minutes.

Verdict: Should you buy?

In my opinion, the ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ is for those who are looking for a smartphone with massive battery back-up which almost last for 2 days and do not care about the Chinese competition smartphones brands like Realme and Xiaomi. However, those competitive device perform much much better than the M21 and there is no doubt about it. But, 4GB RAM + 64GB of Internal storage of the ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ will do a pretty decent job for an average user. The overall software experience is great in this device but the only thing was that the camera was a bit underwhelming. Samsung may improve this a bit more with future software updates but as of now not sure about it.

Overall, this ‘Samsung Galaxy M21’ smartphone is a decent package like the Samsung Galaxy M30s. The best part is that you can buy it at a lower price than of M30s. The whole purpose of this smartphone is meant for an average user with budget constraints of under Rs.15000/-. So you can definitely buy it if you are looking to purchase a device for the daily usage which has a big battery life.
